The Gunners were on fire as they took West Brom apart away from home. Here’s what happened in this Carabao Cup tie.

Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal took West Bromwich Albion apart with a 6-0 win in the 2nd round of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night at The Hawthorns.

Arsenal, who have stumbled out of the traps in their first 2 Premier League (EPL) games, took the lead before 20 minutes when Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored from a rebound at close range.

Arsenal netted 2 more goals before the first 45 minutes were up, with Aubameyang scoring his 2nd and Nicholas Pepe scoring an easy tap-in at the far post to take a 3-0 lead into half-time and kill off the tie.

West Brom, who were relegated from the EPL last season, made 11 changes from the side that won at the weekend in the Championship and had 5 players, including goalkeeper Alex Palmer who were all making their debuts.

Bukayo Sako added to Arsenal’s lead soon after the break when he ran on to Martin Odegaard’s intelligent flick and smashed a first-time shot past West Brom’s Palmer to make it 4-0.

Aubameyang completed his hat trick with a beautifully curled goal and substitute Alexandre Lacazette netted from a Saka cutback to put the Gunners 6 up before 70 minutes!

“This hopefully can give us something to build our confidence for the next games. We had to work hard and keep pushing,” Aubameyang said.

Arteta was delighted with the clean sheet and the performance. He also praised Arsenal’s team spirit.

“We are all disappointed that we haven’t won any of the two games in the Premier League but the attitude of the players and how together they are [is good].” the Spaniard said.

Arsenal return to action at the weekend. They travel to Manchester City. That will surely be a tougher proposition!
