Two goals from Jesse Lingard, one from Bukayo Saka and a penalty from Harry Kane gave England their fifth win in five games played in the World Cup qualifiers – they lead group I by six points.

On a sunny afternoon at Wembley Stadium in London, England thrashed Andorra in a 4-0 victory over the small European nation wedged between Spain and France.

Manager Gareth Southgate made 11 changes from the side that won 4-0 in Hungary in order to keep the team ready for arguably the toughest test in European Group I, in Poland on Wednesday.

Jesse Lingard gave England the lead with a left-foot finish after 18 minutes but it then took until the 72nd minute to double their advantage when Harry Kane scored his 40th goal for his country from the penalty spot after Christian Garcia fouled Mason Mount.

It was 18-year-old Jude Bellingham, however, who impressed fans with a class-act performance. Extraordinarily composed and at home in an England shirt, the Borussia Dortmund midfielder nutmegged his way past the opposition and gave England fans something to look forward to in the future.

Jesse Lingard took home two goals, one of which seemingly bounced through Andorran keeper Gomes’ gloves – which capped a dismal performance from an Andorran team currently ranked 156 in the world by FIFA, between New Caledonia and the Dominican Republic.

England now head to Poland in a bid to almost assure themselves of qualification for the 2022 World Cup. Gareth Southgate had encouraging words: “It’s a great incentive for us if we can go to Warsaw and win, then we really are in control of the group,” he said.
