Ferdinand Omanyala broke the men’s 100m African record on Saturday, at the 2021 World Athletics Continental Tour Gold Series in Nairobi, Kenya.

Ferdinand Omanyala clocked in at 9.77s during a 100m dash on Saturday, setting a new African record. He finished only second to American Trayvon Bromwel, who recorded 9.76.

Omanyala dropped to his knees after the race, apparently in shock over the significance of the moment. His family were seen celebrating in the stands, some with tears, after the race was finished.

In a shocking turn of events, Omanyala beat the American Justin Gatlin, who recorded the time of 10.02.

Africans of all nationalities took to Twitter to rejoice at the news, with one saying “Akani Simbine’s record of 9.84 was completely destroyed by Ferdinand Omanyala’s 9.76. Omanyala is an African RECORD HOLDER”.

The men’s all-time list 100m list needs now includes Omanyala in eight place:
