West Ham United v Manchester United: Preview and Prediction

United look to bounce back after their European loss. The Hammers seek to pick up 3 points after back-to-back draws.

In Europe last week, Manchester United suffered a 2-1 defeat to Swiss club Young Boys, whereas West Ham enjoyed a very good away victory over Dinamo Zagreb in Croatia.

West Ham will be without the in-form frontman Michail Antonio on Sunday through suspension, as the 31-year-old was shown a red card against Southampton last weekend. Antonio has scored 4 times and registered 3 assists in 4 league appearances for the Hammers this season so he will be a huge loss for the hosts. His absence could see Jarrod Bowen playing upfront.

It’s possible that we’ll see a back 3 for West Ham, with Kurt Zouma joining Craig Dawson and Angelo Ogbonna in defence. Meanwhile, Declan Rice and Tomáš Souček are certain to start in the Hammers midfield.

Pablo Fornals and Saïd Benrahma would then probably support Bowen in attack, with Aaron Cresswell and Vladimír Coufal operating as wing-backs for David Moyes’s team.

As for United, Scott McTominay is back in training after groin surgery and It would not be a surprise to see him named in the starting XI for the Red Devils in this game after Ole Gunnar Solskjær hinted that he could have been selected last weekend.

A midfield duo of Fred and McTominay would probably see Paul Pogba move to the left, with Mason Greenwood on the right and Bruno Fernandes playing directly behind Cristiano Ronaldo.

After a poor start to the season, Aaron Wan-Bissaka is under pressure for a starting role from Diogo Dalot. However, the 23-year-old should keep his place alongside Luke Shaw, Raphael Varane, and Harry Maguire at the back.

Expect West Ham to provide a tough test for United, but for Solskjær’s Red Devils to eventually win the game with a 1-2 scoreline!
