In a clash between Germany and Spain, both clubs look for their first Champions League wins of the season. Who will win in Wolfsburg on Wednesday?

Wolfsburg and Sevilla will both go in search of their 1st wins of the 2021-22 UEFA Champions League Wednesday’s Group G showdown at the Volkswagen Arena in Wolfsburg. In their last UCL fixtures, the Bundesliga team played out a 0-0 home draw with Lille on the opening matchday, while Sevilla and Red Bull Salzburg drew 1-1 in Spain.

Mark van Bommel’s Wolfsburg will be forced into a defensive change following John Brooks’s sending off and subsequent suspension, so Sebastiaan Bornauw looks likely to come into the team and partner Maxence Lacroix at the centre of the German’s defence.

William, Xaver Schlager, Paulo Otavio, and Bartos Bialek make up the hosts’ injured quartet, and Van Bommel may make attacking changes, considering his side’s complete lack of attacking threat against Lille.

Lukas Nmecha and Luca Waldschmidt are both options for change in attacking positions, but Wout Weghorst should still start the game in the striker’s role.

In contrast, Julen Lopetegui’s Sevilla must make an alteration up top because Youssef En-Nesyri must sit this game out due to the red card he picked up against RB Leipzig. Rafa Mir is however will be ready to deputise after his goal against Espanyol last Saturday.

En-Neysri actually picked up a hamstring injury during the match with Espanyol so may have not have played anyway, and the visitors’ injury list is otherwise empty at a vital time.

Sevilla have made a great start to the season under Lopetegui, but without En-Nesyri upfront, goals may be difficult to come by. Wolfsburg’s lack of firepower in matchweek one was worrying, and we expect Sevilla to keep them out and to win the close contest 1-0.
