Harambe Stars Entertain Mali!

Kenya need a win to keep their World Cup dream alive. Mali look to go marching on. What will happen at the Nyayo National Stadium in this World Cup qualifying showdown?

Kenya will play host to Mali at the Nyayo National Stadium in Nairobi on Sunday in this Qatar 2022 World Cup Qualifier. The Harambee Stars will be looking to pick themselves up from an embarrassing defeat against the same opposition last Thursday when they were hammered 0-5 by the West Africans.

It was Kenya’s first defeat in Group E, as they drew both of their previous qualifying games against Uganda and Rwanda. With only two points in the bag from three games, Engin Firat’s side are in third place. However, another defeat here could be a killer blow to their chances of progressing any further on the road to World Cup qualification.

Mali are currently leading the group with seven points. They are still undefeated in the qualifiers and have yet to concede a goal. Having also just registered their biggest victory in over two years in the last match, Mohamed Magassouba’s side will be full of confidence ahead of this reverse fixture.

In Stars’ team news, Hassan Abdallah, who’s netted six times in 14 games, could be recalled on Sunday as Kenya look to increase their attacking potency. Michael Olunga should start, as his experience is too valuable for Firat to use him only as a substitute. Erick Kapaito will also be eager to get some playing time, after just sitting on the bench last time against Les Aigles.

Meanwhile, for Mali, Moussa Djenepo came on for Moussa Doumbia against Kenya in Agadir, but this time he could start alongside him, with Adama Traoré playing behind lone striker Ibrahima Koné. 22-year-old Koné netted a sensational hat-trick in the last game. His international tally is now six goals in just four games for Mali!

On current form, it looks like Mali will prevail in Nairobi. Our Prediction is 3-1 to Magassouba’s men.
