France Win Nations League Trophy with Karim Benzema Strike and Kylian Mbappe Stunner!

A controversial winning goal from Mbappe see world champions France fight back from Mikel Oyarzabal’s opener to clinch the Nations League crown with a 2-1 win over Spain.

Mbappe has seemingly redeemed himself after a disappointing Euro 2020, by scoring France’s Nations League-clinching goal in their 2-1 win over Spain.

While Paris Saint-Germain superstar missed a crucial penalty kick in their last-16 shoot-out to Switzerland in the summer, he scored a penalty to put France into this final and then made no mistake when VAR surprisingly called an offside decision in his favour with 10 minutes to go in Milan.

Two of Europe’s heavyweights made the match sluggish, and the flow of the game had struggled to live up to the twists and turns of the midweek semis, but the contest came to life in the space of three second-half minutes.

Mikel Oyarzabal (64′) got the better of Varane’s replacement, Dayot Upamecano, to put Spain in front just seconds after Karim Benzema had crashed a shot against the underside of the bar – but the France striker responded himself moments later with a sensational, curling shot past Unai Simon (66′) to equalise.

That set the stage for Mbappe to net Theo Hernandez’s deflected pass and make the world champions the second-ever Nations League winners!

Mbappe was clearly offside when receiving his pass from Hernandez, but Eric Garcia inadvertently deflected the ball, playing Mbappe onside. After a VAR review, the goal stood.

Afterward, Karim Benzema was ecstatic “It was a dream night from a personal and a team standpoint. It wasn’t easy and we showed the strength of character of this team. We never give up. It’s the sign of great teams to never panic and be patient. When you score a goal like that, there’s always an element of luck. I knew from the moment it left my boot that it was going in.”
