Newcastle United are ready to kick off their new era, era without Steve Bruce, when they travel to London’s Crystal Palace for tomorrow’s English Premier League (EPL) battle.
The Magpies were recently bought by a Saudi Arabian consortium and their manager, Steve Bruce, was expected to leave the team. While this did not happen immediately, it happened eventually, after Newcastle lost their last match 3-2 to Spurs.
“It was hard being called an inept cabbage-head,” Steve Bruce reflected on his time in Newcastle, “I think this might be my last job.”
Newcastle now sit in 19th place with zero wins and three points. It is clear that a change in the club leadership was necessary and inevitable. The question now is – who will take over?
There have been rumours surrounding the former AS Roma and Shakhtar Donetsk manager, Paulo Fonseca, who has been looking for a new job since June of this year. Another name flying around is Graeme Jones, the current Newcastle caretaker manager. The new owners will hope to bring in the best people available without thinking too much about the cost, so let’s see who will they come up with!
Moving on to Crystal Palace, the current 14th team in the EPL. The Eagles drew 2-2 against Arsenal in their last match, although they pretty much dominated the game and deserved to win. If we see the same display of strength and skill from Patrick Vieira’s squad tomorrow, they should have no trouble annihilating Newcastle and moving up the table.
Wilfried Zaha should make a comeback for Crystal Palace after missing their last game due to illness, while midfielder Eberechi Eze remains out for now.
Keep an eye on the Eagles striker Odsonne Edouard. He was the stand-out in the offence against Arsenal, and he even scored a goal. He stands on three goals this season and he will be looking to add a few more against Newcastle.
