Payet Grabs Equalizer for Marseille in 1-1 Draw With Nice After Fan Violence!

Marseille secured a 1-1 draw against Nice on Wednesday, with Dimitri Payet’s equalizer coming in the 41st minute.

Third-place Nice kept a one-point lead over Marseille on Wednesday, still nine points behind leader Paris Saint-Germain.

The 1-1 draw came after Amine Gouiri gave Nice the lead when he connected with a cross from Evann Guessand and slotted home, with the ball going in off the inside of the post. The 21-year-old Gouiri has found the net six times in 11 matches this season.

Nice were indeed the better team in the early stages of the match and their high press troubled Marseille. However, Marseille gradually got into the game and enjoyed long spells of sterile possession in the final part of the first half.

Payet scored his equaliser with a low shot from the penalty area, after Arkadiusz Milik cleverly let a cross roll past him, allowing Payet to finish in style.

The match was a repeat of a game which had been abandoned with 15 minutes left on the clock after Nice fans threw projectiles and invaded the field.

During that match, Payet was hit by a bottle and fell to the ground. After he got back up and threw it at home fans, a significant number of Nice supporters began to rush the field, and blows were exchanged between players and staff members as security officials and riot police struggled to regain control.

After a 90-minute pause, Marseille refused to emerge from the locker room to finish the game.
