Manchester City head to Newcastle United on Sunday and look to maintain their slim advantage at the summit of the Premier League. The home team desperately need a win to climb away from the relegation zone!

Manchester City will be seeking to stay top of the English Premier League (EPL) on Sunday when they travel to Saint James’ Park to meet a struggling Newcastle United.

The Magpies are three points away from safety in 19th position, but both Burnley and Watford have games in hand over them, and Newcastle have not triumphed against Manchester City in their last five encounters.

Newcastle defender, Jamal Lewis, will be out until early next year with a hamstring issue. Matt Ritchie is likely to deputise in the left-back’s absence.

Allan Saint-Maximin limped off in the Magpies last game against Liverpool on Thursday. The quick turnaround in fixtures makes the French forward a serious doubt for Sunday’s game.

Centre-back, Federico Fernandez, is not expected to return from a knock that he picked up earlier this month, while Paul Dummett is back in training, but won’t make this weekend’s clash.

Isaac Hayden returned to the starting XI on Thursday and he is expected to keep his place in midfield alongside Jonjo Shelvey, with Ryan Fraser and Jacob Murphy playing on the flanks for the home side.

For Manchester City, Bernado Silva is a doubt after being substituted in their last game as a precaution, so Pep Guardiola may rest the Portuguese international.

Ferran Torres will be absent from the visitors’ squad, as he continues his recovery from a foot injury, after not playing for the Citizens since September.

João Cancelo could return to the side after suspension along with Raheem Sterling, who could lead the line for the visitors and attempt to add to his four-goal tally in the EPL this season.
