The Brazilian nets a double, as the Gunners stroll past Leeds United at Elland Road on Saturday. The result keeps Arsenal in the hunt for the Champions League!

Arsenal eased to a 4-1 win over an injury-depleted Leeds United at Elland Road. The match was the only English Premier League (EPL) game to go ahead, amid a Saturday of numerous COVID-related postponements.

An early double from forward, Gabriel Martinelli, as well as goals from Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith Rowe, gave Mikel Arteta’s side a third league win in a row that keeps them fourth in the EPL table, on 32 points.

Martinelli opened the scoring on 16 minutes, as he took possession following a tackle on Alexandre Lacazette and rifled the ball into the top right corner.

The 20-year-old doubled Arsenal’s lead in superb fashion just before the half-hour mark, when he coolly lifted over Leeds keeper, Illan Meslier, after being put in on goal by a fantastic Granit Xhaka through-ball.

Saka made it three just before half time. The 20-year-old Gunners winger beat two Leeds defenders inside the 18-yard box, before scoring via a deflection.

The visitors continued to dominate after the break, but could have been reduced to 10 men when VAR reviewed a challenge from Granit Xhaka, on Leeds midfielder, Raphinha, for a possible red card. However, no punishment was handed out.

Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds, who are now 16th in the EPL on 16 points, found a consolation goal fifteen minutes from time. Raphinha fired in a rocket of a penalty, after striker, Joe Gelhardt, was felled inside the box.

But it was Arsenal’s Smith Rowe who had the last word, to cap his side’s performance with a goal on 83 minutes, when he smashed home an intelligent pass from teammate, Martin Ødegaard.
