Sánchez Strikes Late in Important Spurs Triumph at Watford!

Watford fight admirably, but pressure eventually proves telling as Davison Sánchez finds the back of the Hornets’ net in the 96th minute!

Tottenham Hotspur’s quest for an English Premier League (EPL) top-four finish was helped by a 1-0 win at struggling Watford after Davinson Sánchez netted a dramatic injury-time winner.

Spurs had more possession during the game, but disappointing finishing meant Antonio Conte’s men were forced to wait until six minutes into added time to break the deadlock when Colombian defender, Davinson Sánchez, met a Son Heung-min free-kick and nodded home.

Earlier, Sergio Reguilón had a stinging strike thwarted by Watford goalkeeper, Daniel Bachmann, 5 minutes before the half-hour mark, while Harry Kane also fired just inches wide in the opening minutes.

Bachmann was required several times after the break. The Austrian parried a shot from Lucas Moura over the bar on 52 minutes and saved a close-range effort from Son, 19 minutes from time.

Sánchez scored the decisive goal in an extended period of stoppage time, that was due to a delay caused by a medical incident in the stands at Vicarage Road.

“It was a difficult game because we played against a team well-organised defensively; they prepared this type of game but we controlled the game,” Spurs manager Antonio Conte told Spurs TV. “We had a lot of possession and we created chances, but I think that we missed the last pass – we could do better – and also because, in this type of game, if you score early, then your opponent has to change the plan and you can find the space.”

Conte extends his unbeaten start as manager to eight games since replacing Nuno Espírito Santo in November. Spurs are now 6th in the EPL table, but with two games in hand over Arsenal and West Ham United, who are fourth and fifth respectively.

Watford’s winless run, which dates back to November the 20th in the EPL, continues. Claudio Ranieri’s Hornets are now 17th, with just 13 points.
